About Delena
Delena Sanders completed her DONA birth doula training in June 2016 with birth expert Rae Davies in Jacksonville, Florida. She learned basic doula skills as well as breastfeeding support. She became certified with DONA in May of 2020. Delena began as a volunteer of Bold City Doula Coalition where she offered doula services to poverty stricken families and communities. She was later contracted with Gold Coast Doulas in her hometown, Grand Rapids, MI. Her passion for providing mothers their desired birth experience stems from her passion of women empowerment. She believes in making sure families are well prepared for birth and being able to curate their desired birthing experience. Delena prides herself in being a non-biased source of support in order to best service the needs of the families.

What exactly does a birth doula do?
My main focus to comfort and advise families. So I help the families with their birthing plans, I help them research different procedures or techniques they may be interested in exploring and encourage them throughout the process. During labor, I help keep mom comfortable as possible, and make sure her needs are tended to. I also implement breathing techniques and offer support through every contraction.
Can I have a doula if I'm delivering in a hospital?
Absolutely! I'm here to support the birthing experience of your choice. I'm with you either way.
Is a doula the same thing as a midwife?
No. Doulas don't do anything medical. We're strictly there for the support and comfort of the family.
What are your credentials?
I am certified through DONA International. My LLC is valid in the State of Georgia as well as Michigan. I have limited liability insurance through CM&F Group.
Delena was my advocate. She really went to bat for me and made sure my birth flowed as close as possible to what I had imagined. Having her by side relieved so much anxiety. I'm forever grateful.
